As a consequence of the ageing population, the number of people in need for cancer and dementia palliative care will rise.
Palliative care is progressively becoming better known and accepted, and in many European countries it is under active development. However, the rapid developments of our understanding of palliative care and measures to improve its organization, have not been followed by the implementation of these insights and the spread of best practice.
The overall aim of the IMPACT project is to develop optimal implementation strategies for using quality indicators to improve the organization of palliative cancer and dementia care in Europe and to study factors influencing the effectiveness of the strategies.
IMPACT is the acronym of a Collaborative research project co-financed by the European Commission (7th Framework Programme, HEALTH-2010-two stage, Grant Agreement No: 258883). The full project name is: IMplementation of quality indicators in PAlliative Care sTudy. It started on February 1, 2011 and has a length of four years. The IMPACT project is built on a consortium of 12 research teams located at 12 different universities or research organizations.
